Back in May this year, we created this 3D model of the Old Mill which formed part of this wonderful display by Team Grenada at Chelsea Flower Show. The display went on to win gold!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Old Mill and this eye-catching display was thoughtfully created as a tribute to Grenada’s sister isles – Carriacou and Petite Martinique. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 17th and 18th century Grenada, two types of mills ground sugar cane and extracted its juice: water mills and windmills. Where rivers flowed, water wheels powered rollers to crush the cane. On drier estates\u2014 especially in Carriacou \u2014 stone windmills were built, their cylindrical and conical shapes a feat of engineering. Crafted without supporting frameworks, these mills were built by enslaved people whose skill and endurance allowed many to withstand centuries of hurricanes. Their enduring presence is a testament to hard work, ingenuity, and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, these mills stand as symbols for Carriacou and Petite Martinique \u2014 communities who, like the mills, continue to endure and rebuild in the wake of near-total devastation from Hurricane Beryl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was a great project to be part of. Our team worked with the client to achieve the desired shape, colour and finish. The body of the mill was sculpted from expanded polystyrene, coated to strengthen, texture added, and finished in emulsion to replicate the colours of the mill. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s incredibly rewarding to watch a project like this evolve \u2014 from an initial concept or image into a fully realised 3D creation. And one that formed part of such a beautiful display. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
