We manufactured a series of large hanging polystyrene balls for Fred and Ginger, created as part of an exhibition stand for their client, Mölnlycke.
The display used balls in several different diameters—450 mm, 500 mm, 600 mm, 700 mm and 800 mm—to create a cluster of suspended green spheres above the stand. Varying the sizes gave the overhead display more depth and made it visible across the exhibition hall without adding excessive weight to the stand structure.
Preparing the Balls for Exhibition Use
Each polystyrene ball was carefully sanded to produce a smoother, more consistent surface before being coated with Idenden.
The Idenden coating sealed and strengthened the surface while also increasing its resistance to flame—an important consideration for materials being used within an exhibition environment. The balls were then painted in a vibrant green finish to complement Mölnlycke’s branding and the wider stand design.
We also fitted each ball with a secure hanging point, allowing Fred and Ginger’s installation team to suspend them safely at different heights above the completed stand.
Lightweight Suspended Display Props
Large polystyrene spheres work particularly well for overhead exhibition displays. Their scale makes them visually effective, while their low weight makes them far easier to handle and suspend than equivalent props made from heavier materials.
The completed arrangement created a simple but striking feature above the Mölnlycke stand, helping the space stand out within a busy exhibition hall.
