Beam Engine at Messe Dusseldorf 96

This year marks 30 years since Graham Sweet was commissioned by Messe Düsseldorf to design and build this realistic beam engine sculpture for EuroShop ’96. The piece was created for display in the main entrance hall of the exhibition, where it immediately captured attention.

See the beam engine in action here.

Standing at an impressive 5 metres high, the beam engine featured full mechanical movement, synchronised with artificial steam and sound effects, bringing the sculpture to life. With its scale, realism, and dynamic presence, it was undoubtedly a major talking point for visitors throughout the event.
